Small Wonders

Even on the crappiest of days there are always small wonders. Maybe it's the fact that you remembered your umbrella when it starts to rain, or the smile a little girl gives you on the bus, or finding that chocolate bar in the back of the cabinet.

So what was your small wonder today?

  1. I ate leftover red Thai chicken curry for lunch, made from curry paste that I made myself, and it was absolutely delicious! And the best part is that I have more curry paste in the fridge :-)

  2. We have a little flock of hens in our garden and they provide small wonders every day - the best today has been picking up a fresh, warm egg from our Peggy - it's so lovely to hold on a cold spring morning!

  3. This morning in the park I saw a dog named Harriet. She looked like a Jack Russell/sausage dog mix with the shortest legs imaginable. When her owner called her she ran at full-tilt, ears flapping, her belly nearly skimming the ground.

  4. Yesterday we grossly underestimated the amount of time it would take to get to Hammersmith to catch the coach to Somerset for Mother's Day weekend. We arrived at a run to find coach heaving with passengers and 20 people waiting outside. We didn't know whether we could get on or not. Finally one woman said "Are you booked on the coach? They may have just called your names." So we jumped aboard and were told "You're very lucky. We were just about to give your seats away. All those people are waiting." That's when we realised that the reason for the silence amongst 19 people outside was because if they kept quiet there'd be two extra seats on the coach for them. The lovely lady broke ranks though and did the right thing.

As we settled into our seats, the lady came up the stairs. They'd found an extra seat for her. So you see? Honesty pays :-)

  8. There's a cutout of a cat in garden next door to in-laws, clearly put there to scare birds away. A blackbird is perched on it while his friend pecks for worms in front of it. It's clearly not the deterrent the neighbours hoped for.

  11. Loo roll! I've got allergies (or a spring cold - not sure which yet) and am a sneezing machine... were it not for the miracle of loo roll, I'd have a hand full of, well, let's just say it's not ice cream, every time I sneezed.

Loo roll is indeed a small wonder :-)

  13. Lots of small wonders yesterday as I walked over to the London Marathon. First, THE LONDON MARATHON! What a remarkable thing for people to do - totally inspiring. As I was walking there, around the corner came a donkey parade... church-type people leading two donkeys along in a procession towards the local church (presumably because it was Palm Sunday).

Then, at the marathon I met an ex-gangster and ex-con, who now runs a mentoring charity for kids to try to convince them of the importance of education. An inspiring man. This is his charity: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Product-of-a-Postcode/206927572851563

  14. Today's small wonder is: Rice Pudding! I love that you put a tiny bit of rice into a huge vat of milk, a bit of sugar, a bit of nutmeg and two hours later you have the most delicious dessert known to womankind. Here's to the humble grain of rice! :-)
